2012...

So 2012 is finally upon us.  I haven't been the best at keeping up to date with my blog but this year I will be starting to make weekly posts, it's my new years resolution, I can't wait. As well as is setting up my own etsy shop in the near future so I will keep you updated.  Next week I start back at uni again and this weekend I am taking it upon myself to start some research into a new project I've got in mind.  I will also be posting some photographs of some previous work, hope you've all had a very happy new year, I did.

Journalling...

Just spending the whole day on my journal really makes me so very content!  Ive just been cutting, sticking and typing on my new (old) typewriter.  It was a gift from either my grandfather or his mum years ago.  We were clearing out the attic a few weeks ago and it was just one of some right good little finds.  I remembered having it as a kid but not so much using it.  I love the mustard colour though, so cute.  Anyway must delve back into it, seasick steve is calling me too! Hope you enjoy the pictures :)

Just had the best morning, been to a car boot sale and what a little treasure trove it was too.  Found all this lot for the nice little sum of £23.  My favourite purchase was the Fujifilm Instax camera.  I can't wait to have a play about with it once I get some film.  My mum managed to find yet another antique Singer sewing machine too, thats 4 for her collection now!  She googled the make and found it to be from the 1890s!  Here's a little photo...

Feeling so inspired today after my trip down to The Fennel Shed.  It's a little quilting/fabric shop in Buncrana.  This is part of my little stash I've built up over the last year or so and I've finally decided to make my first ever quilt.  I love the little reproduction fabrics and also 60s/70s inspired patterns.  It's been a long time coming but hopefully with the help of my very talented mama Sandra Montgomery, I will make something beautiful out of these lovely little treasures.  You can have a look at her blog here: www.sandy-quilts.blogspot.com (she really is awfully good at what she does, my own personal teacher...how lucky)  Anyway must dash, I'd love to get started but work is calling me.

End of Year Project...

Here are some photographs of my end of year piece.  It was a very simple in its nature but I didn't want to overpower the muted tones of the maps and pages with too much colour in the collaging.  I love the history behind the materials used, (vintage maps/books/magazines), the owners, journeys and memories that must be unknowingly attached to them is mysteriously beautiful to me.  Looking back I liked working on this project the most and it was a nice way to end the year.  I will be continuing the exploration of the possibilities of using collage and illustration this year, whilst also working on my photograpy, hopefully keeping you updated along the way. Anyway thanks for reading, I'm off to bed. zzz

So it was my birthday there at the start of July, apparently I'm a grown up now, 21, I can feel the wrinkles forming as I'm writing this.  Just thought I'd let you have a little peek at the gift I received from my mum and dad.  They wanted to get me something I would have forever, so me and my mum went to a little antique shop in Derry called 'The Whatnot', where I finally, (after trying on every ring in the shop), fell in love with this little beauty.  Its 9 carat gold with a little amber stone set in.  I absolutely love it.  Thanks mum and dad :)
